Championship awards

The NERS began awarding championships in 2005 to reward rats that excel in the pet and/or variety shows. The pet award was revamped in 2009 and a new championship for agility added. The awards consist of:

  • The Variety Champion award
  • The Stud Champion award
  • The Pet Champion award
  • The Agility Champion award
  • The Grand Champion award
This means we reward excellence in temperament and 'pet' qualities, as well as excellence in physical attributes, ultimately with the highest award going to a rat who excels in both respects (grand championship).

A variety championship is awarded to any rat that achieves 6 points in the variety supreme challenge (SC) at NERS shows. Best in Show is awarded 4 points, Reserve BIS 3 points, 3rd in the SC is awarded 2 points and 4th in the SC is awarded 1 point. This award can be abbreviated to VCh as a prefix to the rats name.

A stud championship is awarded to any rat that achieves 6 points in the stud buck challenge at NERS shows. 1st in the stud buck challenege is awarded 4 points, 2nd is awarded 3 points, 3rd is awarded 2 points and 4th is awarded 1 point. This award can be abbreviated to SCh as a prefix to the rats name.

A pet championship is awarded to any rat that achieves 12 points in the pet supreme challenge (PC) at NERS shows. Best Pet is awarded 6 points, Reserve Best Pet is awarded 5 points, 3rd in the PC is awarded 4 points, 4th is awarded 3 points, 5th is awarded 2 points and 6th is awarded 1 point. This award can be abbreviated to PCh as a prefix to the rats name.

A agility championship is awarded to any rat that achieves 6 points in the agility challenge at NERS shows. 1st in the agility challenege is awarded 4 points, 2nd is awarded 3 points, 3rd is awarded 2 points and 4th is awarded 1 point. A grand championship is awarded to any rat who is awarded 6 points in the pet challenge and 4 points in either the variety challenge or the stud buck challenge. This award can be abbreviated to GCh as a prefix to the rats name.

All championship awards made will be announced at a NERS show and published in Rattitude and on the online forum. If you have any questions about the NERS championship award scheme please contact our award scheme co-ordinator.
